Description:

This is a great trip for beginner bikerafters. The short distance and flat water coupled with warm summer temperatures make this a good training ground for a One-Stop Adventure trip. The Plummer Creek Delta is formed as the creek flows into Chatcolet Lake on the south end of Lake Coeur d’ Alene. The area is prime territory for bird watching and fishing. Observe osprey, beavers, moose, red-winged black birds, lilipads in bloom, and other plants and wildlife. The two ends of the paddle are the campground dock at Hawleys Landing Campground and the road bridge crossing Plummer Creek near the Marsh Parking area. There is a large parking area at the Visitor Center which is near the campground dock and another parking area near the marsh. Note: There is no water access from the marsh boardwalk and viewing platforms. You must use the road on this end to access the water. To get to the campground dock you need to walk/ride through the campground on the north end. For the easiest bike route take the paved road between each end. Mountain bikers may wish to ride Lakeshore Loop trail (see map) or explore other trails within the park. Note: The waterfront trail is for foot traffic only.

PRO Tip: If you want to skip the bike it’s possible to just hike back along the waterfront trail or also just paddle both ways. If you are looking for a longer trip consider parking at the Trail of CDA trailhead in Plummer loading your gear on your bike and riding down to the put-in via paved bike path (~7mi) doing the paddle and riding back to Plummer.
